Kit of Food & Family has literally done the opposite of what I did:  I moved from South Africa to the UK and she moved from the UK to South Africa!  It's always fun to see what strikes her as unusual about South Africa and to contrast it with my own experience of living in a foreign country.  Kit's writing style is beautiful and she shares not only wonderful recipes but also tales of midsummer parties, midwinter bonfires and children's treasure hunts on their smallholding.

1. Where are you – in South Africa or out in the wide world?

2. How long have you been blogging?

Just over two years now

3. What do you enjoy the most about food or wine blogging?

I enjoy the challenges of the food events, that inspire you to try out something new and photograph your creations for posterity. I like thinking about food with a view to writing and sharing it. I love the community of great food bloggers out there and that you can find new tastes and flavours everywhere you go.

4. Any downsides or frustrations?

That I don't have as much time as I'd like to blog, cook, read blogs and I'm just too far from town to get hold of some of the luscious ingredients I'm reading about easily.

5. What or who are your inspirations to cook, drink and write?

As far as cookery books go I still love Nigella Lawson and Nigel Slater, then Marcella Hazan is the best ever for Italian cooking. Apart from that reading other blogs is the most regular stimulation and inspiration.

6. Where and when do you like to blog?

In the evenings after the children are in bed or on the weekend, is when I get my blog posts written. I turn to Bloglines to read everyone else's blogs as light relief and a break from work through the day.

7. What's your signature dish or favourite wine?

At the moment it has to be roast potatoes. My family adores them and get most put out if a Sunday goes by without a proper Sunday lunch – and it's only considered proper if roast potatoes are on the menu!

8. What other food or wine blogs do you read?

Cooksister – you know this one! The Passionate Cook. Vanielje Kitchen. Lucullian Delights.

9. Favourite restaurant?

We don't go out much, as it's a bit of a schlep to go into Cape Town in the evenings and we usually need our beauty sleep, but we like to go out occasionally for Sunday lunch, when I get a day off from the roast potatoes. There's a lovely little wine farm with a restaurant that we've been to a couple of times and is our current favourite: Groote Post in the Darling Hills wine area. 

10. For my last meal on this planet I would order…

the fish. A really wonderful freshly caught line fish, with a lemon butter and some perfect chips, a herby salad and then something really chocolatey for pudding. A Springfield white with the fish and coffee with the chocolate … but then maybe I should re-visit some of the amazing Italian meals I've had in my life. How do you decide?!
