If you live in Cape Town, "living the good life" usually means things like hanging out at Po Na Na or Kennedy's Cigar Bar and cruising Camps Bay in your convertible on sunny days. But for Pia of Mother City Living, it means seeking out a life that includes "good food, beautiful places, and excursions to the great outdoors, all within the realms of an ordinary person's budget". Pia seeks out Cape Town's organic food and crafts, as well small, independent producers and retailers – and then shares this treasure trove of info with us on her blog. So step inside Mother City Living and start living the good life!
1. Where are you – in South Africa or out in the wide world?
South Africa (Cape Town)
2. How long have you been blogging?
Since August 2006 – so just over two years now!
3. What do you enjoy the most about food or wine blogging?
The more I write about food, the more I learn about how much incredible variety there is out there. And meeting all the wonderfully enthusiastic folks out there who believe in all things good, healthy, natural and organic really and truly floats my boat.
4. Any downsides or frustrations?
Not really!
5. What or who are your inspirations to cook, drink and write?
I love food – good, natural, sustainable food. It's good for me, and it's good for the planet. What inspires me to write about it is the hope that, little by little, I may be able to share my enthusiasm, and others will love it (and the planet) as much as I do – so that we can all live the good (green) life. (Yes, I do have rather strong tree-hugging tendencies!)
6. Where and when do you like to blog?
From my laptop, wherever that may be, and whenever inspiration strikes (and there's an internet connection to get it out into the world). I'm always particularly busy after the weekend, as I'm usually off to various markets in search of organic goodies.
7. What's your signature dish or favourite wine?
No two dishes of mine are ever the same… I cook using whatever's available in my garden, or from the local market. I'm not a big wine buff, but I rather like Excelsior reds.
8. What other food or wine blogs do you read?
9. Favourite restaurant?
I don't eat out much, but you can find me occasionally at Olympia Cafe in Kalk Bay, or Mamma Roma in Lakeside.
10. For my last meal on this planet I would order…
A sushi platter with all the trimmings!
