When I first stumbled across the Food24 bloggers last year, one of the first blogs to catch my eye was Tongue Tickle. The pictures were colourful and eye-catching, and the writing style was so bright and enthusiastic – and the enthusiasm was contaigious! As I got to know the blog's lovely owner Naqiyah, I realised that the blog is merely an extension of her bright and bubbly personality. Naqiyah shares her knowledge of traditional dishes (she even did a feature on the foods eaten during the holy month of Ramadan) as well as mouth-watering goodies such as the sensational choc-mint brownies whe's tempting us with at the moment. Let's get to know her better…
1. Where are you β in South Africa or out in the wide world?
Johannesburg, South Africa, in a kitchen that spills out her secrets almost everyday!
2. How long have you been blogging?
I've been a blogger-voyeur for as long as i can remember. But I put finger to keyboard early in 2007, February. What a wonderous world it has opened for me! Nothing feels greater than sharing your passion, and love of food with people.
3. What do you enjoy the most about food or wine blogging?
Its about the connection – the joining of one common language that is food. I love the harmony plating up something delish, and having the world view your art. It is art right?
4. Any downsides or frustrations?
Plenty! "which angle to take the pic from", "how many ladybugs should i put crawling out of my polenta pud.." !! Blogging is therapeutic. I use my love of design and photography to make my food more appealing to the eye, and to encourage poeple to try to make it.
5. What or who are your inspirations to cook, drink and write?
My husband. he loves good food! And he's always proud of my many foodie achievements. Nothing feels nicer than putting out a well presented plate at supper time, and have him say how lucky he is π after all, we do eat with our eyes π
6. Where and when do you like to blog?
Early mornings for me. It helps me clear up my day to get on with designs, or arb house things. I blog as i cook, so apart from making the time, its my escape to something other than work on my pc!
7. What's your signature dish or favourite wine?
Until recently, my love of 5 fruits and veggies a day. I love fresh juices, and curries prepared with some or the other veg thrown in. I often find myself starting with a simple mutton curry, and adding carrots to it for more depth.
8. What other food or wine blogs do you read?
Jeanne's, my super sweet Cooks! π and a few that i normally stumble upon by accident. theres a wealth of glorious food blogs available, so I catch up when not working or cooking.
9. Favourite restaurant?
I'm a traitor! i used to love Adega until 2go opened it doors. I love the range of Middle-Eastern food and pastas available. And I have to try almost everthing that i can eat on their menu!
10. For my last meal on this planet I would orderβ¦
Solly Mangra's mutton biryani!
I am such a fan of the Tounge Tickle blog and started subscribing recently. I enjoy reading these types of food blogs as well as restaurant reviews
